Alternative Intersections: Displaced Left Turns

The Displaced Left-Turn (DLT) intersection is an innovative, proven solution for improving safety and mobility at intersections. At a DLT, left-turns are relocated to an upstream crossover location. The direct left-turn at the main intersection is then able to occur simultaneously with the adjacent through movements, resulting in fewer conflicting movements, more efficient overall signal phasing and better progression and throughput.
